Day 3 Activity 3 Week 2

Day 3 Activity 3 Week 3

This is what I had to do On your blog, tell us how you will solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer. .

This is what I had to Work out Let’s imagine that the average adult can lift 25 kg and the average child can lift 15 kg. How many adults and children will it take to move the giant squid into its new room at Te Papa?

Working out:
The squid weighs 500 kg what I need to figure out How many children and adult will take to move the 500 kg squid.

25kg x 10kg = 250kg
15kg x 10kg = 150kg

250kg + 150kg = 400kg

25kg x 2kg = 100kg

400kg + 100kg = 500kg

12 + 10 = 22

So to carry the squid you will need 12 Adults and 10 children.

  1. Kia Orana Oali'i,

I can see that you've used multiplication to try and solve the problem, good thinking, however your answer is in fact incorrect. You are on the right track but one of your steps does not add up... Is 25 x 2 really 100? Give it another go and see how it works out. :)

Perhaps next time you could explain the different steps you took, did you know straight away that 10 x 25 = 250? Or did you use pen and paper to help figure it out?

It would definitely be quite a task to lift and transport that giant squid! If I had the chance to help out I would, I've always been very curious about creatures found in the deep sea.. I don't even mind that there may be a very fragrant smell and some dead squid goo. If you could help would you?

    Toe feiloa'i fo'i,

    Cia.
